How to Update Transactions

Please refer to the steps outlined below for information on how to update transaction data within the Dashboard.

Please note: If you upload transactions using transaction IDs that already exist in Taxbit, those existing transactions will be updated with the new data you ingest and will not be duplicated. New transactions are only created to the extent the transaction ID provided is not currently in the system. This is a supported workflow for correcting previously ingested transaction data. For reconciliation reference material, see QA Package, Transaction IDs Report, and Reconciliation Reports.

Export the Transactions from the Transactions Page

You can export transaction data directly from the Transactions page as a CSV file. The export includes all transaction data when no filters are applied, or only the transactions that match the filters you select.

Step 1: From the Transactions page, filter to the necessary accounts.

Step 2: Select “Export” from the top right.

Please note: The Transaction Export uses the same structure as Taxbit’s Standard transaction ingestion template, so it can be edited and re-ingested directly through the Dashboard. If you need to update transactions using a different template, please format using the appropriate template before ingestion.

If you only need to identify existing transaction IDs across a broader population, you can also generate the Transaction IDs Report. For steps on accessing reports, please refer to How to Generate & Download a Report.

Ingest the Transactions File

After editing the Transaction template with the necessary corrections, you will need to re-ingest it through the Ingest page to update the transaction data in Taxbit.

Step 1: Update the necessary transaction rows in the CSV. Keep the same transaction_id values for the transactions you want to update. Then, from the Ingest page, select the Transactions file type.

Step 2: Select the appropriate transaction template. If you updated via the Transaction Summary, you would select the “Standard” template. Otherwise, select the template that applies.

Step 3: Upload the corrected file.

Step 4: Review the file and approve the ingestion.

For more information on how to ingest data, please refer to the following guide: How to Ingest Data

Please note: Re-ingesting transaction data with the same transaction IDs updates the existing transactions already on file. It does not create duplicate transactions. If you need help confirming that the correct transaction IDs are on file before re-ingesting, use the Transaction IDs Report, which is specifically intended to support reconciliation, corrections, and re-ingestion workflows.

Review the Updated Data

Once the corrected transaction data has been re-ingested, you can review the updated records via the Transactions Page to confirm the changes were applied as expected.
