B-Notice Management
When you receive an IRS CP2100 or CP2100A notice, use the Taxbit Dashboard to upload the notice, compare the IRS information with your current account records, and identify the appropriate next step for each affected account:
- Upload the CP2100 file from the Ingest page on the Dashboard by selecting B-Notice as the data type and CP2100 as the file type. Select the applicable tax year before uploading the pipe-delimited .txt file.
- Taxbit compares the information reported to the IRS with the current account and account owner information in Taxbit.
- The system assigns an actionable B-Notice status to each account, such as B-Notice Required, No Further Action, Unknown Account, or Resolved.
- Taxbit uses available B-Notice history to help identify whether the account requires a first or second B-Notice.
- You can review the results from the B-Notice page, export filtered records, and manually resolve eligible records after the required documentation has been received.
If you have open B-Notice records from a prior year or from another provider, you can also upload historical B-Notice records so the Dashboard reflects the current status of those records.
For more information on the B-Notice Page, please refer to the following guide: B-Notice Page
B-Notice Mailing
Taxbit can generate the official B-Notice package and facilitate physical mailing for accounts that require a notice. B-Notice mailing is currently handled through a Taxbit Support ticket and the existing Taxbit mailing workflow; it is not submitted through the standard Forms page mailing flow.
After you review the B-Notice population and confirm which accounts should receive a notice, open a Support ticket to request mailing via the following support form: Physical Mailing Request Form. Taxbit will use the applicable B-Notice type to prepare the appropriate package and coordinate physical mailing.
Please reach out to your account team to confirm mailing support and next steps for your organization.
Collecting Updated Forms W-8/W-9
A B-Notice may require updated tax documentation from the account owner. If you use Taxbit’s Digital W-8/W-9 solution, you can use the embedded SDK or API workflow to collect and store tax documentation, including Forms W-9 and supported Forms W-8.
Submitted documentation flows into Taxbit and can be reviewed through the Dashboard or supported API workflows. Once acceptable documentation is received, a Tax Manager can manually resolve the related B-Notice record from the B-Notice page.
For more information about supported tax documentation workflows please refer to the following API doc: Tax Documentation FAQ
