US Tax Season Extensions

The IRS offers a 30-day extension of time to file Forms 1099, for both the recipient copy, as well as the IRS filing. Taxbit will complete an extension request on your behalf, unless you choose to opt out of this process by Friday, January 16, 2026. Please note, however, there is no extension available for the Form 1099-NEC.

For Forms 1099-MISC, K, INT, DIV, R, B, DA, 1042-S, and 5498, we will file both:

  • 30-Day Extension of time to file Recipient Copies – Form 15397
  • 30-Day Extension of time to file with the IRS – Form 8809

Note that the extension of time to file Recipient Copies is not automatically approved. As a result, we still encourage providing forms to end users by the original deadline.

The extension of time to file with the IRS, however, is automatically granted. It is often industry standard to utilize the extended deadline to ensure the filing is as accurate as possible.
